American Academy of Art College 100th Anniversary Logo

ADOBE PHOTOSHOP + ILLUSTRATOR

A commemorative logo for the American Academy of Art’s 100th anniversary that reflects the academy’s art education milestone. This design is a combination mark of the American Academy of Art’s brand mark and my logotype. Screen-printed by hand onto sellable merchandise such as t-shirts, hoodies, and crewnecks. All screen-printed merchandise sold helped to raise funds for the student-led class trip to Central Print in St. Louis, Missouri.

Logo Design / Printing

My Creative Process

When beginning this design I wanted to focus on clarity and simplicity. Additionally, the design had to have limited colors so it could be screen-printed quickly by hand. Then these screen-printed items were going to be ordered by students, alumni, instructors, and more so it was important to make the design uncomplicated in case of printing mistakes. While sketching I discovered using the angle of the triangle-shaped logo from the academy looks like some sort of confetti popper or pencil. The pencil most people see when looking at this design helps the viewer associate the school with art education. I also made it clear with more visual weight that the purpose of this design was to celebrate the academy’s 100th anniversary.
